Recreation Officer – Casual – Bureau

Mō mātou - About us

When you join Presbyterian Support Central (PSC), you’re becoming part of something truly special, a not-for-profit organisation that’s been helping people for more than 115 years.

Everything we do is about supporting people at the most vulnerable times of their lives, whether that’s an older person needing care and connection, or a family working through tough times.

PSC has two well-known service brands that lie at the heart of our mahi:

  • Enliven: our positive ageing services that create age-friendly communities where older people have companionship, choice, fun, and purpose. Being part of our team means embracing a values-based approach and contributing to a not-for-profit service dedicated to supporting elders.
  • Family Works: our social services supporting children and whānau through counselling, social work, life-skills and parenting programmes and safety services.

The Enliven Bureau team provide support to our residential homes at times when they need additional cover for leave, absences, special events or unexpected or high volume of workloads.  They are an essential part of the wider Enliven team and ensure that our Homes can run seamlessly at all times and offer continuity of care and support to our Elders. Our Wellington Homes include Huntleigh in Karori, Longview in Tawa, Cashmere in Johnsonville and Woburn in Lower Hutt.

Mō te tūranga  - About the role

This role is looking for a Recreation Officer to work across out Woburn and Longview Homes on a casual basis. Our team are experienced and dedicated to providing a high-quality experience for our Elders.  We are looking for a new casual team member to join us to support our activity programmes and special events.

As a Recreation Officer, you will work as a member of a team to plan and facilitate and deliver the day to day recreation programmes. You will encourage Elders to maintain their independence and maintain connections with their community.

The key aspects of the role involve the delivery of a day service delivery that responds to individual Elders needs, maintains brain health and provides a rich and diverse experience.

Mō koe - About You

You will have experience working with Elders and be passionate about the wellbeing of older people.  You will be enthusiastic but patient; well-organised, with great interpersonal skills.  You will share our values of empathy, compassion, and respect. We are looking for someone with:

  • Previous experience in a Recreation or Diversional Therapy role, or similar background
  • A minimum Level 4 Diversional Therapy Qualification, or a Level 3 NZ Certificate in Health & Wellbeing and experience supporting Elders with dementia
  • Understanding of person-centered care and meeting individual support needs
  • Ability to listen to people and work collaboratively within a team
  • Full, clean New Zealand driver’s license
